WonderWitch
How did that name come about you wonder? Well…I’ll tell you.
I used to be a shiatsu therapist, sometimes clients become friends and friends become clients. One day I had a friend on my treatment table who was reminiscing about crafting. This stemmed from the fact that she had trained as a dressmaker at a fashion academy. Life happened, she married, had kids, started another career. And she really longed back for the days of knitting, crocheting and creating things. She thought she had lost all her skills and wanted to relearn them. I told her: “there is no reason not to get started on that, we can do that here as well, together, not on the massage table, but in the room next door…” And she chuckled and said: “You are a real witch aren’t you? You can do anything. You are a WonderWitch!” Well… I can’t do everything, but there is a lot.
My maternal Grandmother Louise (Tante Loes for family and friends) came to Canada to care for me for the first year of my life. And when I turned 6 she came back again for a half year or maybe it was shorter, it’s been a while and sometimes you adapt your memories. But in any case she taught me to knit, crochet and embroider. I never stopped crafting after that. I kept building my skill set and researching other crafts like bobbin lace, Egyptian braiding (sprang) and later in life hand spinning and hand dyeing fibers.
So that name WonderWitch stuck with me and I adopted it as my business name for my crafting business. I do not only make a lot of things, I also love teaching. Specifically older techniques that I do not want to be lost like Tunisian crochet, hairpin lace, etc. But since internet evolved into such a fertile ground for finding anything…lost is a relative term nowadays.
And I produce so much stuff…sometimes it’s commissioned, and sometimes I just want to try stuff out. In any case my creations make for great gifts and sometimes I can help out someone in need of that specific color of yarn for a project or even custom dye or spin something. It’s such a never ending adventure. And I love color, colorful, crazy cornucopia of all things color. I’m sure I’m not alone in that.
So that is me WonderWitch …
